Hello, world! I'm staying away from social media these days, and maybe you should too. It's difficult to know where your internet friends stand on certain issues and this blog post is designed to help out those wondering who I am (thanks)! Caution: brutal honesty ahead.
A small (non-comprehensive) blurb about me: I was born in Aurora, Colorado. I'm a self-starting firecracker from a military family. I am a proud patriot. My dad died serving the United States of America in the Army XVIII Airborne Corps. I was raised by my grandparents in Denver, Colorado. Both are now deceased. My mother was a toxic person who was psychologically abusive and tried to convince me I was a terribly abnormal child, starting at age 7, which did a lot of damage to me. I left home at 17 to start a healthy life. Without her in my life I've been thriving and have never been better! I have a strong work ethic, and have been employed since I was 15 in order to pay my own bills. I worked my way through college and had to rely on scholarships and grants to survive. I'm over $150,000 in debt from school, as are many of my millennial friends. I do not imagine I'll ever make enough to pay it back so hopefully the government realizes that students like me are doing everything they can but still will not be able to repay them for something that should be a fundamental right. I do not fit the stereotype of lazy millennial who got everything handed to them by "helicopter" parents.
I'm a first-generation college graduate. As an undergraduate I studied astrophysics, and my passion is cosmology. I'm also passionate about civil rights, inclusivity, and diversity in S.T.E.M. fields. It's imperative that America continues its scientific legacy by lowering the cost of education thereby allowing the underprivileged to access degrees.
I have extensive public service and volunteering experience. Being valuable and helpful to my community is important to me. I want to further develop my skills as a science communicator, and help encourage diversity and curiosity in science topics among K-12 students and the general public. I have a desire to help science centers and museums design interactive exhibits and lobby displays.
I was inspired to study astronomy and follow secular humanism by reading Carl Sagan. I believe that we can all strive to be better humans, and try harder to lessen the suffering of others.
I am for intersectional feminism as well as diversity in scientific fields. Politics are intertwined with science. there's no such thing as "apolitical" science because science is done by human beings, and unfortunately the bodies and lives of human beings ARE politicized. Anyone who tells you science has nothing to do with politics needs to check their privilege. People who do science include those in groups being oppressed by the regime in power.
I really love all animals, they're so much better than humans. I believe in animal rights. evidence shows us that eating meat and supporting the factory-farming industry promotes and expedites global warming and climate change.
I am for environmental activism, and believe that Native American treaties should be honored. We need to move away from building infrastructure like oil pipelines and towards a renewable energy future. There's extensive evidence indicating that renewable energy infrastructure creates MANY more jobs than the fossil fuel industry creates.
I always welcome friendly criticism after you've done your own research and present me with facts. I DO NOT welcome, tolerate, or partake in bigotry, misogyny, racism, homophobia, or ableism. I will always thank you for calling me out, if need be. Being corrected is part of the learning process and it's how we grow. I will call out anyone for being a bigot, even if that person is in my own family. It's more important than ever to stand up for those who have been silenced for too long. It's more important than ever to do what is right.

The Merriam-Webster definition of fascism is "A political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition" Trump is an ignorant fascist and a false, accidental president. (Not to mention a self-proclaimed molester.)
MORE FUN FACTS! My hobbies include running, hiking, climbing, biking, reading, podcasting, gardening, farming, and camping. Mountains > ocean. Stargazing and succulents rule. I enjoy Mexican food, and Indian food but my favorite is Greek food. My favorite T.V. shows lately are; Betty (HBO), Broad City (Comedy Central and a web series), Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO), Seinfeld (Streaming on Hulu), Work In Progress (Showtime), definitely Jeopardy (Streaming on Netflix) also The X-Files (Streaming on Hulu). My favorite movies are probably anything Kung-Fu or Wing Chun like Bruce Lee and IP Man stuff and The Big Boss, Fists of Fury. As of today, I'm looking for opportunities to grow, advance, and help my community. I'm beginning a new job, as well as finishing a graduate program at The University of Colorado. I'm searching for a career I'll enjoy while also finishing graduate studies in e-Learning, math & science education. Thank you for your curiosity! Hopefully in the future I'll have some astrophotography posted here for you to look at.
Stay curious, friends!
